Get Involved

Freedom Summer teaches us that we have the power to get involved and make change happen. Below is a list of organizations surrounding Civil Rights for those seeking ways of plugging in.

  • Voting Rights & Civic Engagement
    • Fair Fight Action – Founded by Stacey Abrams, it advocates for fair elections and fights voter suppression.
    • League of Women Voters – Promotes informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
    • When We All Vote – A nonpartisan initiative co-chaired by Michelle Obama that encourages voter participation, especially among young and underrepresented communities.
  • Racial & Social Justice
    • Color of Change – Focuses on racial justice by challenging systems of inequality in media, politics, and corporate practices.
    • The Advancement Project – A multi-racial civil rights organization advocating for equity in democracy, education, and policing.
    • Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation – Works to end state-sanctioned violence, support Black liberation, and advocate for policy change.
  • Education Equity
    • All4Ed (Alliance for Excellent Education) – Focuses on closing the achievement gap and advocating for underserved students.
    • UNCF (United Negro College Fund) – Supports Black students in higher education through scholarships and advocacy.
    • Education Trust – Works to close opportunity gaps for students of color and low-income students.
  • Criminal Justice Reform
    • Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) – Founded by Bryan Stevenson, EJI fights for ending mass incarceration and racial injustice.
    • The Sentencing Project – Advocates for reforms in sentencing policy and prison system overhauls.
